Quite a few Lithuanians think that emigration is the only way to improve their living. However, it is possible to successfully enter the labour market in Lithuania. This possibility is provided by promising engineering studies.

The leader of the company TPA Alvydas Andrijauskas talks about the Bachelor’s study programme Programmable Automation Systems that will be provided at Panevėžys Faculty of Technologies and Business (PTVF) of Kaunas University of Technology (KTU) starting from 1 September 2020.

You are the head of the company. You have contributed to the preparation of the study programme Programmable Automation Systems at Panevėžys Faculty of Technologies and Business (PTVF). Do you, as a business representative, need the specialists who would graduate from this programme?

We need them, obviously. Our company has a considerable lack of highly qualified engineers. The businesses are looking forward to the start of this programme in September.

In your opinion, does KTU PTVF prepare the specialists properly?

Of course, they are prepared very well. Now, we have 6 employees who are graduates of KTU Panevėžys Faculty of Technologies and Business. They are excellent employees. Also, we have one Master’s student of Panevėžys Faculty of Technologies and Business who is completing his internship. We would like to keep him as an employee if he is willing. The institutions in other cities prepare engineers but KTU PTVF will be the first one to prepare them here, in Panevėžys.

What is your opinion on the programme?

Since I have contributed to its development and saw the beginning of its creation, my opinion is very positive. Not only because the company needs the students of this programme but also because the graduates of the Programmable Automation Systems programme will have sufficient knowledge to work as engineers of a specific area as well as universal engineers.

What makes this Bachelor’s study programme exceptional?

The programme is exceptional because the students complete 3 semesters of internship during the period of studies. The introduction to the speciality is in the first year of studies. We, business representatives, social partners, will meet with students, talk to them and explain about this speciality and their future work, we will visit companies together.

Why would you recommend the studies of the Programmable Automation Systems at KTU Panevėžys Faculty of Technologies and Business?

There is a lack of highly qualified engineers in entire Lithuania, especially in Panevėžys region. People from other cities do not want to work in another city, far from home. Panevėžys is a city that has the university and strong companies that need good specialists. By providing this study programme, KTU Panevėžys Faculty of Technologies and Business would significantly reduce the shortages of specialists. All the graduates of the Programmable Automation Systems programme would be employed.

Thank you for the interview.
